The City of Clarion, Iowa is hiring a City Administrator/City Clerk. The county seat, Clarion is 1¼ hours north of Des Moines, and has become a resurgent, exciting and thriving community on the move. The ideal candidate will embrace the opportunity to create and execute innovative ideas to drive economic growth. 

 

Population: 2,850

Budget: $7.8 million

· Participated in visioning program and generated visual concepts for improved safety, functionality, and aesthetics throughout community (i.e. walking/biking trails, rain gardens, downtown landscapes)

· In planning phase of recreation center for sought-after indoor recreation space

· Strong community engagement through civic organizations and local businesses

· Legal counsel engaged and focused on nuisances, abandoned homes, and internal policies

· Full-service community with water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities, police/fire/EMS, an airport

· In planning stages of new water plant and water well

 

Key Responsibilities

· Facilitates the day-to-day operations of municipality

· Oversees all operations and departments with guidance from Council/Mayor

· Performs duties of City Clerk including payroll and human resources

· Engages community through technology and personal contact

 

Qualifications

·Must have Bachelor’s degree, preferably in public administration; Master’s degree encouraged

·5+ years of local government experience preferred (i.e. City Manager/Administrator/Clerk, City Planner, elected official)

· Proven success in strategic planning and project management

· Driven, growth-oriented with creative ideas and initiative to adopt change

· Demonstrated achievement in interacting and influencing a diverse audience

· Previous experience in community and economic development, public finance and budgetary practices

 

The City operates under a council-administrator form of government. The governing body is composed of five council members and a non-voting mayor who are elected at-large.

Salary: $75,000-$90,000 DOQ
